DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Information Science & Engineering department aims to impart the foundational and dedicated skills in design, programming, user interface, etc. For graduating students, exciting career opportunities are available in all these areas across the industry, government, and entrepreneurship sectors. The Information Science & Engineering department has State-of-the-art infrastructure for teaching-learning, research and consultancy. The department has MOUs with leading IT companies and research organizations. It has full equipped Laboratories and Centre of Excellence. Postgraduate and Research Programmes of the department provides ample opportunities for the students to explore emerging technologies and do result-oriented research. The placement record of the department has always been impressive.

DEPARTMENT RESEARCH DETAILS

The Department of Information Science and Engineering is well qualified with eminent faculty members who are guiding Ph.D. scholars in advanced areas of Information Sciences. The department is actively involved in current areas of information technology presenting papers at conferences. A track record of at least one project-proposal getting selected every year in KSCST Annual Project Proposal Contests. Faculty of the department have executed many research projects supported by VTU, KSCST, VGST and other prestigous educational and reserach oriented organizations.   • Received Grants from National-level Council for Technical Education- All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of Karnataka- Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) and Visveswaraya Technological University (VTU).

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

During the course, the Information Science & Engineering course is preparing graduates to:

  • PEO1: To expertise in problem analysis, solving, design, development and necessary information to meet technical and managerial challenges.
  • PEO2: To pursue interdisciplinary research and higher studies with profound knowledge enriched with academics and information technology skills.
  • PEO3: To excel in competitive environment towards leadership and life-long learning for a successful professional career.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Duration & Eligibility of Information Science & Engineering course:

  • DURATION: 4 Years
  • ELIGIBILITY:
    • Pass in 10+2 / Higher Secondary (HS) / Pre University (PUC) / 'A' Level (with 12 years of schooling) or its equivalent with English as one of the languages.
    • Shall have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Electronics.
    • AIT admits students as per prevailing rules and regulations of VTU.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)

Information Science & Engineering graduates will be able to learn:

  • Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Life-Long Learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

At the end of the course, the Information Science & Engineering graduate should be able to:

  • PSO1: Analyze and design a solution to problems using various programming languages by applying the suitable data structure and file structure concepts and obtain optimal performance through design and analysis of algorithms.
  • PSO2: To work on the recent technologies by managing and organizing the processed data for new growth of opportunities in the industries exploring web designing and simulating the real world problems.
  • PSO3: Applying the principles of software engineering to develop computational models under realistic constraints and ability to provide solutions based on the expertise in networking, database management and entrepreneurship to the various needs.
